Inspirado en un canal estrecho en la región de Magallanes, FITZ ROY es un canal de 20 kilómetros de largo y 1 kilómetro de ancho promedio, que conecta el Seno Skyring, en el noroeste, con el Seno Otway, en el sureste. Además separa la isla Riesco del continente. Lleva el nombre de Robert FitzRoy, quien fue pionero de las observaciones meteorológicas e hizo de la predicción del tiempo una realidad.logró fama duradera por haber sido el comandante del HMS Beagle durante el famoso viaje de Charles Darwin alrededor del mundo (1831-1836).
